Bio:
Gina is a native of Tampa, Florida, where she lives with
her family and ever changing population of pets. As a child Gina began her art
career by drawing pictures for her friends in grade school. She later had the
good fortune to land her first job as a portrait artist at Busch Gardens. She
continued to work at “The Gardens” every summer during high school, and through
her college years while majoring in fine art and later commercial art. While in
college, she met a wonderful guy, got married, and started a family. After a 12
year hiatus from her art to focus on her young family, Gina slowly began to
redevelop her career again. At first by taking portrait commissions and more
recently, by using her creativity to develop her folk art/pop style of art that
has become her trademark. Gina creates the majority of her art in Acrylic on
stretched canvas. She also enjoys working in Pastels and dabbling in oil paint
which gives her a variety of different media to work. Gina works in her Tampa
home studio, assisted by her two dogs, Cujo and Heidi, and most frequently Odie
the cat. She is a member of Tampa Realistic Artists in Hyde Park, where she has
served as an active board member for 3 years, Las Damas De Arte, and The Arts
Center in St. Petersburg, Fl. Gina exhibits at art festivals all over central
Florida in the spring and fall.
Artist Statement:
I never know what to say about my art...I
just paint. I have done this for as long as I remember. These days I enjoy
working in pop, primitive, whimsical and folk art. I find these styles very
expressive and fun to do. I tend to paint the things that I love or fascinate
me, such as my precious cat who always leaves me “gifts“ on the porch, or coffee
cups, another obsession with me, or the beautiful night sky with a grand
luminous moon shining, just to mention a few of my favorite things.....
